Fort Southwest Point

Fort Southwest Point

On our way home from Knoxville last week, my darlin’ and I stopped off at a little place called Fort Southwest Point.  It is located in Kingston, Tennessee.

Fort Southwest Point was constructed in 1797 and at it’s peak had housed over 600 troops.  It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Clinch and Tennessee Rivers.  Though it served to protect travellers travelling across Cherokee territory, it’s mission eventually evolved to protecting the Cherokee from settlers encroaching on Cherokee territory.  For more information check out their website at : http://www.southwestpoint.com/
